“Vergankelijkheid” is the Dutch term for decay in relation to beauty and all that is temporary. At this moment it is my quest to explore this fascination and find a translation into spatial expressions of this theme. My main inspiration is ‘Vanitas’, a still life painters theme used in the Netherlands and Flanders in the 16th and 17th century. Vanitas visualize the transience of life, futility of pleasure, and the certainty of death. Ingredients in my work are a dash of humor, beauty and suffering.
